Under the provisions of the United Kingdom Housing Act 2004 every landlord or letting agent that takes a deposit for an assured short hold tenancy in England and Wales must join a tenancy deposit scheme.

In England, it is a legal requirement from 1st April 2019 that all letting agents and property management companies to be a member of an approved Client Money Protection Scheme.

Client Money Protection (CMP) protects landlords’ and tenants’ money should a Propertymark Protected agent misappropriate their rent, deposit or other client funds.
